Cracks Grow Old

cracks grow old
but remain
steady
like the fissures in her eyes
enveloping dark streams
of kohl
that captured dreams
once
now long for nourishment
harboring hopes
of a new beginning

cracks grow old
and wise
and through it she emerges
a phoenix
rising from the ashes
of grief and sorrow
to a world of smiles
and faithful promises

cracks may break
and yet
they shape up our lives

  1. Beautifully done, Green Speck. More than our successes, it is our failures that teach us, make us grow, give us strength and challenge us to evolve.

"Harboring hopes for a new beginning" says it all.

  3. Wow...Your play with words is so tamed and composed...wish I too could :/
Old cracks are gloomy and breaking but might give rise to something better and even...a fresh whiff of scented air might escape from the crack to reach one's senses ..hopefully

  8. It's kind of neat how cracks tell stories in many ways don't they? They have seen so much throughout the years.

  9. Last Stanza is awesome, even cracks have the ability to guide our lives, experience is a great teacher. Failure or success, all serve a purpose.

  11. Live on Green, she's got to live on. Melancholy and lovely poem. I wonder if the kohl would run down the fissures around my eyes. Hmm...time for Botox? (joking) :)

  13. "Cracks shape up our lives" very true indeed although cracks may hurt us and scars may remain after the wound heals, there's no denying that they shape our lives. Couldn't have put it better. Brilliant poetry!!

  16. a phoenix
    rising from the ashes
    of grief and sorrow
    to a world of smiles
    and faithful promises

This gives hope to the land of promises. The phoenix will appear at the right time. Nicely GS
