She Could Never Learn To Swim

she could have -
     waded through her tears
     glided past her fears
     played with the tide
     paved a joyous ride

then, without a trace, she sank
drowning in dream, sadly blank

lost in waves, her innocent whim
she tried
but could never learn to swim
