Why Should I Write?

My blog turned two yesterday. 16th May.

Strangely enough, I didn't feel the need to write much yesterday. Or for that matter, in the last few days. For someone who has been blogging regularly since the last two years, targeting at least one post per day, it was ironical that the last poem was posted almost a week ago.

Well, to be honest, I had decided to take a break from writing, to concentrate on other avenues, which I termed as more profitable ventures, not related to writing of course, but in areas that would help in my sustenance.

Perhaps a better, more practical approach to life, something that's 'normal', something that everyone does, focusing on ways to improve in other areas, trying to rise higher in quest of a brighter future.

And abandoning the present.

Why should I write? I often questioned myself, self-doubt playing crazily on my mind. Writing takes time, and they are mere words that float on pages. What would I get out of it?

How can I get anything out of it?

And so, I decided to stop it for a while.

Until today, when the question came floating back in my mind, rephrasing itself.

"Why shouldn't I write?"

I started this blog on 16th May, 2012. I had challenged myself to write at least 20 posts that year.

As I checked my blogger stat today, 789 posts stare back at me. Never ever had I dreamt of writing even a hundred post in two years, and that's what makes me feel ecstatic about myself.

And I got the answer to the question that has been ringing since long.

Life is too short, as we all know. What would happen the next moment, we can never guess. But what we can do with these moments, we can always plan.

Passion is God's way of drenching us with the blissful nectar, gifting us with the desire to live our life the way we want to. True, we would have other commitments. True, there would be moments when things wouldn't roll as smoothly, and hurdles would creep up on the way, but that doesn't mean we should let go of our passions.

What can life be without it anyway?

I thank you all for being a part of my journey. Two years isn't a very long time, but it has been great thus far. Posting a poem, or a story, or just a random thought, waiting for your comments, and reading all of you, learning from you in the process, striving to be a better writer, a better person.

And the best thing about blogging ... I have made innumerable friends, who have gradually turned into my closest buddies.

Now, Why Should I Write? does have a fitting reply.

Quitting isn't the solution, but a better time management is. Time, always so precious, and we squander it so recklessly. Time, the route to our success, the excuse to our failures.

Time.

Let's blend our passion, duty and responsibilities, balance this mixture with time, and savor the heady concoction. Life would never let you complain again. Trust Me !!!

Thank You All for always supporting me and my writing. Without your love and care, 'Live Your Life - GreenSpeck' wouldn't have bloomed this way :-)

  2. Well, change is inevitable, be it to better ourselves or move forward in whatever areas in our lives as we need to, and quitting isn't the solution, you're right! But growing and learning and adapting is!! And we all must learn and grow and adapt to the turning of the tides! I am experiencing this as well!! Just don't quit! Please don't ever quit! If you won't, I won't!

  3. It is important to write . It is cathartic and creative. Besides in everyday life one does not meet folk with esoteric interests such as poetic forms and the deep and meaningful topics which are expressed in our work. You would miss the intellectual rapport. Poetry blogging becomes a way of life ( an important part of life I think) Congratulations on all your posts. You should be proud that you have written so much. Chars and flars :)

And now, Sinha, dare you stop writing ever. I will come and kick you. I love reading your poetry. You are an amazing amazing writer and a dear friend. At the end, your little brain worked and you figured out that what you need is time management and not this stupid thought of leaving writing.

I thought you took a vacation with your blog, to celebrate the blogoversary Amrit :P On a serious note, words flow from your pen/keyboard so beautifully, it would be unfair if you kept them hidden. Glad to know we will get a chance to enjoy specks of words every now and then. Keep writing Amrit, you know why you should and you will :)

It's always good to hear that I'm not the only one who has doubts, however I don't deserve to say this with my less than 100 posts in two years. :D With more than 700(and all good ones), you have a reason to be proud of yourself.
Thank goodness you have found the answer to the question. Reasons and all. Also I really liked what you wrote about the importance of Time.

  18. Congrats, Amrit! And Happy Blogversary! You have done so well in two years. An excellent writer yourself and gifted with words which you could weave so beautifully in your posts. It's always a pleasure reading you.

It seems a coincidence when I have the same idea of taking a break in writing until today. I'm also trying to pursue something better in my life which needs so much commitments and time. Then again, I was thinking I mustn't abandon what I have started, i.e. blogging. It's always a pleasure seeing the number of visitors each day. I have just updated my blog with a new entry today, which is almost a month since the last one! I'm glad I do it again.

I'd love to read more of your creativity. Thanks a lot for sharing so much all this while.

All the best in your undertaking! :)
