The Car House

I didn't believe it at first.

"You made a what?" I asked, astonished.

"A car," he smiled.

"A car?"

"Yes, those vehicles with four wheels that ..." he began enthusiastically.

Now this was strange. "Yes, I know what a car means, but how the hell did you make it? You are no damn mechanic. And it looks so different, not just like any car."

"That's because it's my home-car," he beamed proudly, "I live here."

"Why, what happened to your house?" I was curious.

"Well, you see," he gulped, "my wife stays there with her new friend, a man, so.."

"Truth or dare?" they asked in chorus, the wicked smile playing on their faces.

"Dare!" I replied, exuding plastic confidence.

Rahul, the self-proclaimed king of bravery, set the task, "What do you say, buddy, about a night trip down the abandoned bridge, all by yourself?"

Sweat beads trickled down my forehead as I remembered our adventure, rather our mis-adventure, last October, when I, along with Rahul and Suresh, had gone down the abandoned railroad bridge late at night in search of the source of the mysterious howls that wailed across the horizon as soon as the clock struck twelve.

I took a deep breath and gulped, "Agreed."

Smile, Betrayed

"Sometimes when I am alone, I cry," she looked at me, her eyes moist, betraying the smile that she had adorned all this while.

My heart went out to her, as I resisted the urge to hold her tight and hug her so that she could find some solace in the pulsating beats of my heart which swayed in rhythmic motions, dancing in its own free world with the blue veins and red arteries.

As I slowly walked towards the door, I realized that this was probably the last time I was seeing her; perhaps, she understood it too. Brushing her fingers against her moist cheeks, she said "Each love has its own destiny, Rick. Do not regret, 'cause we all are slaves to our fate."

I couldn't face her anymore. Like a coward, I ran out of her house towards my car. I didn't even care to turn back, to check if she was still carrying that deceptive smile which used to hide her pain and anguish most of the time.

Four years evaporated in a flash. I turned on the engine and forced my left foot on the accelerator. As the clouds of dusts gathered around my Sedan, I tried to locate her silhouette in the rear view mirror; she wasn't there.

I raced home. My wife and kids were waiting for me to celebrate my birthday.

Confessions - I Lie To You

Confessions -
I lie to you
At times when
Truth becomes heavier
Pulling me towards
The isle
Of fear where
The sun refuses to rise
And the moon
Sleeps behind dusty
Clouds all day in
Muted mockery
Testing the tides
That ebb of a once fertile hope
Now hurls
Tiny stones towards
My sand castles
That succumb, and numb
From pain, past and present
Threatening the smiles
That shine on
My horizon

Confessions-
I lie to you
Thus.

The Hurdle

As I walk towards the vines entwined across the fence, I remember how we curled up in love on the moist grass that rainy afternoon, tears exchanged with the tip of our tongues as we bathed in the fragrance of pristine serenity.

We disobeyed the fence at times, stealing long awaited celestial moments with the stars invading our privacy.

However, we never made promises; rather, we walked our separate ways, either side of the white fence, that symbolized the barrier that had always existed between us.

The fence stands majestically even today. Can I cross the hurdle one last time?

Just Like That

Haiku and poems keep me busy these days, and yes, there's my work too ... I mean my means of bread and butter and everything else ...

Not to forget my two other passions ... playing my guitar and reading novels ... leaving me very little time to write about me in this blog.

Anyways, it's almost 9 months since I started this blog ... yes, N-I-N-E ... truly unbelievable, keeping in mind how lazy I used to be whenever the thought of writing crossed my mind ... yes, I loved dreaming, but not writing, and perhaps that's one reason which justifies the fact that I had written only 3-4 poems before I started this blog last May.

But then again, a friend of mine kept on pushing and insisting me that I come up with a blog and start writing ...

Finally, her constant ranting forced me to start this page that has now become as dear to me as my life ... Thank you Dark Angel for continuously getting on my nerve and eating my head almost everyday, urging me to start a blog of my own !!!

Blogging made me smile among tears, and laugh with the million stars (ok, let's not get too philosophical now).

I am glad to have received all your love and support in this journey till date ... your comments always motivate me and inspire me to write on and on.

I am glad to have come across brilliant writers whose words really struck my a chord.

I am glad to have made innumerable friends who share the same love for writing as I do.

And, I am glad to be a part of this world with all of you :-)

There have been good times, and bad times, and good times again, but that's how life goes ... achievements and losses come in cycles, so never let your feet off the pedals; success might be running towards you ... why not give it a chance?

One of my favorite moments of 2012 was the selection of my short story "The Last Note" in the Penguin anthology "Love Stories That Touched My Heart." It gave me the confidence and the faith that made me believe "Yes, I can write too."

And it wouldn't have been possible without this blog and without all of your support.

So THANKS A LOT.

I have several plans related to my writing, and with amazing friends like you by my side, I sure can achieve them.

Your suggestions always matter. I love your appreciations, and would try to work on my weaknesses based on your criticisms. Your words are valuable, and help me learn.

Ok, now I got to get back to work. Do take care, and keep writing.

And as always, Live your Life and Love Your Life.

In My Life

in my life
pages burn with thorns
once adorned with petals
now naked, shameless
steering the ship
on a journey long lost
questions that answer
with concocted lies
in the midst of whirlpool

one, two, three and a thousand
shadowing the horizon
with ugly stares
that darken the nights
of fear and tear
and I run
and run
in cylindrical maze
sinking in the abyss
where truth unfolds
and hope unfurls

darkness brings light
where I stand up
and learn to fight

Cherish

I cherished the sunset as you hid the flowers behind your teenage frame, enticing me to the scent of the blooming reds.

However, over the years, I couldn't feel the same aromatic essence of roses; perhaps I missed the scent of your freshly bathed body, the wet hair sticking out from under your cap, lurking somewhere in the distant corner.

I look at the sun today and it's hidden behind the clouds, of shame, despair and loss.

Ten years without you and the world has started rotating without me; can't you see how much I yearn for you?

I muster grit and dial his number.

Riveting Incredible Plot

Riveting and incredible! Yes, that’s how I would like to describe the plot of Mukul Deva’s new novel – RIP. Set against the backdrop of corruption and scams, the novel provides you with a hard hitting edge-of-the seat thriller that leaves you asking for more, yet satisfying your nerves with the final conclusion as you pace through the last few pages of the book.

Mukul Deva is an alumnus of La Martiniere College, Lucknow, the National Defense Academy, Pune and the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. He was commissioned into the Sikh Light Infantry of the Indian Army. He served in the Indian Army for fifteen years, having vastly experienced combat operations in India and abroad. He is now settled in Singapore where he works as an entrepreneur, motivational speaker and an executive, business and creativity coach. He is also a Mentor on the United Nations Institute of Training and Research Afghanistan Fellowship.

Mukul Deva is currently India’s leading writer of military thrillers, and reading his books you realize why the term "leading" has been associated with him. Just like his previous bestsellers, most notably the Lashkar series, Deva manages to grab your attention from the very first page of this novel. The book starts with a bunch of ex-army commandos, better known as the K-team, spurred by a common goal to clean the country of its corrupt leaders, take charge and terminate three of them as part of a well executed plan. The group calls themselves as the RIP – Resurgent Indian Patriots, threatening to kill the wrong doers who have plundered the nation for long, one by one, if the Government doesn't pay heed to their demands. Their demand is simple and straightforward, punish the corrupted leaders and govern the nation with honesty and integrity. However, quite expectantly, their demands fall flat on deaf ears, and the people behind the power are more eager to get the RIP out of their way than punishing those who have illegally stashed up cash and properties through innumerable scams and frauds. What happens thereafter traces the story to its ultimate climax of heart racing and pulsating finale.

In the midst of all these talks of freeing the nation from corruption and providing justice to the citizens of the country, also lies a heart warming love tale that tugs right at your heart – strings. The love between two of the protagonists is simple and subtle, ably managing to bring out that smile from the curve of your lips as you scurry through the tension-filled pages. The tension of war, and love, keeps your attention glued right through the end, as this page turner doesn't let you keep the book for even a few seconds.

Needless to say, my cup of tea went cold as its warm fragrance failed to divert my attentions from the pages of this splendid thriller.

Even when I finished the book, I picked it up again and again to gaze at the magnificent cover that adorns this novel. True to his style, Mukul Deva doesn't disappoint, but instead takes us out on an exciting roller coaster ride through his speedy words.

The characterization is perfect. The portraits of Krishna, Raghav and Reena are perfectly painted, providing numerous shades to these protagonists. We live with them, smile with them, breath with them, and love with them. All in all, this book is as perfect as it could get.

I would suggest RIP to everyone. It should be a must-read for all of you.

Final Verdict – RIP (Read It Please).

Thank You Blog Adda for providing me with the wonderful opportunity to review this book.

they wait not for answers, they cry not for loss
the world races ahead, in all its luster and fanciful gloss
