frantically I searched
in closet
wardrobe
nooks and corners
for voices
we recorded
on a wintry day
when the sun shone bright
and we melted
with glittering icicles
on rose petals
the moments
rewind
play
rewind
play
rewind
and then it
stops
lost are those smiles we so lavishly spent
tearing apart dreams we once did paint
songs of the past that swayed to our beats
no more could be found, alas, away they went

I stil have a machine like that ... for just in case the past comes back ...
ReplyDeleteSometimes it's hope we cling on to, makes us feel stronger and better :-)
DeleteI liked how the machine stands for both the literal and the figurative.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sakshi :-)

DeleteMoments are gone but their memories...beautifully composed.
ReplyDeleteThank You Simmy :-)
Deleteinteresting how memories seem to become the forefront when age slows us and reconfigures our activity..
ReplyDeletewe need a machine like this recorder to remind us of when once we did look forward to the glittering light
of melting icicles on rose petals instead of looking back at memories.
nice reflection.
Thanks :-)
DeleteRecording moments of voices in love...sad to hear those in retrospect, but tis' better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all :)
ReplyDeleteVery well said Keith :-)
DeleteMagical :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Sonia :-)
DeleteThat's very captivating, Amrit. Looking back in past through merely forgotten things can be very painful yet satisfactory. Loved the imagery you've used here as well as the theme, very apt for the prompt :)
ReplyDeleteThank You Sayantini :-)
Deleteah they are nice to revisit---those memories...but how hard when there are no more to be made....
ReplyDeleteIt's difficult at times :-)
DeleteAlways love to revisit fondest memories--but try to keep making new ones...it works! Good writer you are, Amrit!
ReplyDeleteI read this more than once! Beautifully written, Amrit :)
ReplyDeleteThank You Lubaina :-)

DeleteI have a tape recording of the music sang and played at my wedding almost 25 years ago. I don't have a tape player anymore… kind of sad. I need to get it transferred perhaps. Your poem has a nice poignant turn in it. Well done.
ReplyDeleteThanks Margaret :-)
DeleteEvery word is an expression

DeleteWonderfully crafted Amrit!! Loved the way you used "rewind, play, rewind ,play" we like to keep revisiting some moments of our life for drawing strength from them, don't we.
ReplyDeleteHow you used two interpretations of the same machine..lovely.
ReplyDeleteThanks Red :-)
DeleteLovely memories...I like the contrast of the rose petals and ice...
