Standing At The Crossroads

East
West
North
And South
Stare back at me
Standing at the Crossroads
I am lost today
Day invites dusk
As the birds chirp homewards
In silken ocean.

I count my fears
The darkened abyss
In search of a guide.

And here comes my messiah
A pack of ducks
Paddling across my dream
One, two, three
And Four
Silently quacking
Smiling, giggling
Yellow wings
Folded authoritatively
Command me to follow
I obey
And reach
My silvery nest.

  1. That pack of ducks showing us the way when we're lost...what a beautiful metaphor for life.

  2. This brought a big smile to my face as right now there are scores of ducks around our place. But yes, it's the metaphoric nature of the poem that made it come alive.

  9. that is such a peaceful image, reminds me of childhood days at the duck pond, a duckling running from the big ugly geese, seeking shelter & guidance from momma duck

  15. Such beautiful words to convey deeper meanings, Green Speck. I really loved this one! We all stand at the crossroads often in our lives, blessed are those that are shown the right way to go!
