Koel

"We can't afford it now."

"It's not an 'it' for God's sake. It's our child, yours and mine."

"I know dear, but it's tough to raise a kid in difficult times like these. You do know that we are not ready yet, right?"

The female Koel's voice choked, "When will we be ready? You say this every damn time."

"I don't know. I really don't know," her partner sighed, and flew away.

Yet again she had to abandon her baby, hoping that the nest where she would lay egg belonged to a better mother than she could ever be.

  1. Was just listening to my mother mentioning about koel in general... a koel has the most melodious voice imaginable... !! :)
This post reflects upon many such couples who aren't ready to conceive a child after marriage as life is a name of struggle. Women must compromise.. as a child is a huge responsibility for both partners and should be born at a favorable time... ofcourse.. with the grace of God :)
    Loved this post!!
    Happy Sunday :D

  5. I have heard that koel lays egg in crow's nest... Which will bring up the baby as its own...
Only much later the crow will know that it was not her own...

    Nice one!

  7. so real.. though in humans' world the couple would just postpone having a child forever, as it seems like for some never is a "good time" to have a baby...
