Poor Humanity, Thus We Fail

never taught in schools
and yet, practiced by troubled minds
where innocence is bartered
with insanity

I read of teenagers
wielding guns in classes
a petty quarrel
over pencils and erasers
and secret crushes
turns the playgrounds red

when life breathes death
and conscience is on sale
destiny is shot at, and so is fate
poor humanity, thus we fail

  1. "Poor humanity, thus we fail." I wonder at the influence of so much violent television and brutal video "games", on children who may be desensitized to death and think it is not real when they shoot another child. It is all pretty horrifying. Watching the news is a downer on any given day. Well said, Amrit.

  2. pretty scary when we have kids bringing weapons to school...we have not had an incident this year but 2 years ago we did...it was a large knife and he tried to stab another...the police officer on campus had to taser him...

  5. Violence in schools is on the rise Most schools around here have detectors and strict sign in/sign out policy, but yet you will still hear of stories like this as humanity fails..so sad..

  6. Amrit, years ago.. I believe it was in the same year that my sister passed away, here in arkansas, was the beginning of it all. Jonesboro arkansas and then shortly after, in a different state, there was the columbine incident. Since then, there have been more than a dozen cases of school shootings across the United States and even in other countries. What I find most disturbing is the crucial role the media plays in these copy cat incidences.. The media fuels these young peoples minds as well as their motives. On top of their own insecurities whether they're angry or sad or maybe they just feel worthless.. It's like planting a seed in their minds and they set out to recreate those gruesome scenes. It's very sickening and to think, it all started here.. The place where I call home. Jonesboro is approximately three hours away from where I live. It's very scary and unsettling at times.

  8. We fail but perhaps if we know we are failing we can change things...hard enough in one's own life but let's hope...all violence and destruction on whatever level is unnecessary...thoughtful words as always

  10. The media is taking a toll on kids! So much is going on about what should be banned and what not in our media, instead there should be a complete transformation of information to the mass... if they show any crime, the should show the consequences that the person doing it would face and similarly for the good deeds... our media fails at this! Plus obviously the slow law and order system ...the lack of proper enforcement, just encourages these things!
The delhi gang rape event occured in december 2012 and it's been 2 years since then, and nothing has been confirmed till now! This just increases the frequency of these incidents making all criminals more and more and more fearless!
