I am participating in National Poetry Writing Month 2019. 30 Poems in 30 Days is the target.
The Day 12 Prompt for #NaPoWriMo is to write a poem about a dull thing that you own, and why (and how) you love it. Alternatively, what would it mean to you to give away or destroy a significant object?
Often, what might seem dull to you may not be so in eyes of others. and vice versa. In that context, I divide the world into two - between readers and non-readers. While the readers value the bookmarks, the other group will find it boring and insignificant.
Haven't we all faced this before?
I will offer you a cake
and some cookies too really fast
but don't chew the bookmarks
if you're hungry, just ask
you care not for their existence
but they do matter to me
I might have collected a dozen
with one inside each book I read
you think they are dull
sombre pieces of cut paper
you blabber about their futility
testing patience of fellow readers
but how would you know
the magic that they possess
books were never your companion
their power you can not guess
thus, don't spoil the bookmarks
else stories might no longer flow
you would be lost tracking the pages
the reading, thus, tiresome, slow

Nice but it would have been nicer had you posted a poem to the prompt on Toads
ReplyDeleteI think some people were just writing for the Tuesday platform, not everyone doing the 30 poems in April thing, and that this was permissible.
Deleteyes it is still -"the weekly open stage for sharing poems in the Imaginary Garden. " the prompt is optional
DeleteHi Amrit ~~ Long time, no see. This is great. The 3rd and 4th lines reminded me of an Aggie joke, a Texas A&M College grad. BTW, I didn't write to the prompt for the 23rd either, I wrote to the one at NaPoWriMo, taking up with an animal to write about. I did a rabbit, a child's home made doll rabbit. It a typo or a catch up, Day 12? I had to catch up also, Day 7. I wrote something horrible and posted it late on purpose.
ReplyDelete..
Oh yes, the Aggie joke? Said to the Aggie student, "I buy you books and you eat the paper."
..
Personally I value bookmarks highly and often create my own, sometimes even give them as gifts.
ReplyDeleteI can see why you value bookmarks - because you value books otherwise you would turn the page corners down
ReplyDeleteI love bookmarks and resonate with the idea of cherishing them and realizing their significance ❤️
ReplyDeleteI share your love of bookmarks. Some of mine are barely legible anymore.
