tap tap tap tap
knocking on the door
I sniff your presence
rolling on the floor
beneath the carpet
on the table top
waiting for you
by the wet mop
summers are dry
and sweaty, perspire
I love when you snuggle
and how you admire
you scold me when angry
and when I am wrong
you tell me stories
and sing me songs
the past now vague
parents I don't remember
you have been the one
my mother, father and sister
strolling in the park
when the sun yearns to set
I am glad of the day
the moment when we met
tap tap tap tap
but why do you knock?
you must have the keys
of the main door's lock
perhaps its someone else
and not you who has come
I shall rest for a while
and chase a few worms
click tick crux tick
the door just opened
hurray it's you
with a bag of yummy bacons
I wag my tail
and jump in joy
you smear me with kisses
and say, "I love you my boy"

So tender. I love how you describe the puppy's dependence and attachment to his new parent who provides for him and how he waits through the day for him to return. Really sweet...thanks for sharing.

This is so cute :)
ReplyDeleteHow sweet to give this puppy a voice and your poem really captures some of the "thoughts" or instincts a pet must have every time it hears that tap, tap, tap.
ReplyDeleteThis is so sweet, with a lovable pup picture.
ReplyDeleteLove this poem. It really seems to convey how a puppy would feel after a few weeks with it's new owners. Oh how I wish I could find a house dog. This brought a tear to my heart for the thought of wanting a pet dog.
ReplyDeleteHappy Theme Thursday. Thanks for playing.
God bless.
love given will be paid back may it be animals or even plants.Nice.
