Fortitude

she discards petals
which bloomed once in love
now shrivels alone

farewell past
you gave her smiles, and then
took them back

she marches ahead
bravely defying her tears
smiling tomorrow

  2. lovely take on the prompt. I can feel the melancholy and see her smile by the end. Nice.

  3. Sometimes a person just has to go on and leave the past behind. And it seems this is what she is able to do.

  4. ...i always wonder who 'she' is that often appears in your poetry.... she seemed to have a consistent character in every poem you wrote about her... i like most the second one in its pure quality of brokeness... smiles...

  13. I like it, G.S. Not that I am happy with the story but rather I like the way you wrote it.

My favorite line is "farewell past(,) you gave her smiles which is a bright side to the poem. But it didn't last, did it? Very cruel, the taking away.
